DRESS UP PARTY

‘Dress Up’ was inspired by OskarSchlemmer and his exploration of the human body as a new artistic medium. He saw ballet and pantomime as free from the historical baggage of theatre and opera and thus able to present his ideas of choreographed geometry, man as dancer, transformed by costume, moving in space.

Six costumes where made that consist of material modules that served as the limitation. These dictated the form, scale and patterning of each costume, which in turn restricted the movement of the wearer. Materials included hook-and-loop fasteners that were woven onto a wire grid, book binding tape glued to plastic film, and ribbon the was sewn flat to create pattern and motifs.
